Fifth LFP Sports Law Meeting

Prestigious experts from the world of sports law met in the headquarters of the Liga de Fútbol Profesional to analyse the goings on in the field.

This Tuesday saw the fifth edition of Sports Law organised by the Professional Football Foundation and the Liga de Fútbol Profesional. In this most recent edition of 2013, DLA Piper was the firm invited to explain the current goings on in the field of sports law, along with the other legal experts.

Alberto Palomar, senior professor in Administrative Law at the Carlos III University in Madrid inaugurated the event by making reference to the projects of Citizen Security Law and of the changing of the Penal Code. He also spoke about the recent resolution of the National Competition Commission (CNMC) with regards to the audio-visual right of professional football.

The second expert to speak was professor of Labour Law at the King Juan Carlos University, Antonio V. Sempere. He explained the jurisprudence of Sports Law given by the national courts in the last few weeks.

The event also had Jorge Masía Tejedor, Senior Associate in the Litigation and Regulatory department at the firm DLA Piper, as a guest. Masía emphasised the legal problem with the 3% tax law that states managers must annually pay said amount to the RFEF for the renewing of their licence.

The last person to talk was Sergio de Dompablo, a financial advisor at Acorde Corporate, who illustrated the procedure of investing in sport to the attendees of the 5th LFP Sports Law Meeting, which was once again a resounding success.
